The whole of Newby Hall Cricket Club got together this past Sunday evening for the annual AGM.
The meeting reaffirmed a strong 2024 season for Newby Hall Cricket Club. Off the field, the club saw encouraging financial performance and the growth of the playing squad - which now requires us to field 2 teams on a Saturday. The club's fantastic culture was also discussed, and unanimously agreed that it's an important part of the club that needs to be built on even further.
Thanks for the efforts of Michael Shires and a number of unsung club members, we were also able to consistently prepare a top standard pitch every single weekend - whether for our first team or tenants Sessay. Everyone would like to further reiterate their thanks to all that helped out over the course of the season and made NHCC such an enjoyable place to play cricket.
As with the majority of cricket clubs, the season wasn't without challenges. Overall, the club saw an improvement on the field, moving up 2 places to finish 6th in this year's Nidderdale League Division 4 - but the general consensus was that this was an underperformance and that had we won more of the tight games and 'clicked' that little bit more, the on-field outcome of the season could, and perhaps should, have been far more successful.
However, there's no doubt that the club has the quality of players needed for a more successful 2025 season.
Finally, the club members voted on committee positions and for the 2025 captains.
We're already looking forward to getting preparations for 2025 underway - with a strong recruitment push and continuing to improve behind the scenes to put us in the best possible position for the success that we know we can achieve.
