New Cricket Signing. Craig Somerville marches back to Newby

Well OK...whilst technically not a new signing, because he has been signed on with us for pretty much ever….but we’re delighted to confirm that Craig Somerville is to resume playing duties at Newby Hall in the 2024 season.  

Somers stepped down from playing duties in about 2014 when he joined the Royal Engineers in the British Army. Since then he’s been touring the world serving our country, including spending time testing parachutes in North America and most recently being based at Minley in Surrey. The British Army’s loss is however Newby’s gain, and after deciding to leave the Army, Somers will be relocating to Ripon in late April and resuming his cricketing career at Newby. 

During his time in the army Craig has been playing for his regiment – contributing with both bat and ball and offering the odd distraction to the opposition in the field with his sharp wit and cutting humour - but is looking forward to playing for Newby again and a few nights in the bar!
